Solitude and Serenity
21st century life is fast, so fast it can pass us by seemingly in the blink of an eye. Add in the pressures associated with modern life, the need to conform to social standards, the effect and desire for instant gratifications from social media, along with the pressures of being all things to all people.
Then there’s the added pressure of ‘real life’. Being a good parent, a good partner, building a career, working hard to maintain and be successful at that career, picking yourself up after a setback, buying a home, paying the bills, growing older; losing family and friends.
Some times we just need a little solitude, silence, a break away from the noise of modern life. Taking time to relax in nature and all its beauty, recharge and reset ready to take on the world again.
My project ‘Solitude and Serenity’ is driven from my own need to find a sense of calm and practice mindfulness techniques, spending time outdoors, particularly at the beach, helps me to achieve a sense of calm and inner peace.
The often loan structures within the imaged I take, represent our inner strength, the ability to stand strong as time passes us by. Using long exposure techniques emphasizes the passing of time, and choosing to photographing during the warm light of sunrise and sunset, hopes to offers the viewer a sense of serenity and solitude.
